Actiwash disrupts the proteins and cell membranes of microorganisms, leading to the release of nitrogen and phosphorus from their cells. When applied and left to sit, natural weathering processes help remove the resulting dead biofilm stains. How long does the self-cleansing process (spray/brush & leave) take? Green algae stains typically vanish within a week. Red algae stains usually disappear within 2-3 weeks. Well-established dark stains may take several months to fully clear. Gradual lightening of surface contamination should be noticeable within the first few weeks to months following treatment. Note: Severe biofilms may need an additional application, though this is generally not required. For heavily contaminated areas, brushing the Actiwash solution is recommended.
